All About Me
Teaching in Ojai has been a dream come true. Going into my 23rd year with the Ojai Unified School District, I have had the pleasure helping some very unique students and worked alongside some of the greatest people I have had been lucky enough to have known.
My first seven years were spent teaching and coaching at Matilija Junior High. While there I taught 7th Grade PE, Pre-Algrbra, Accelerated Pre-Algebra, Computers, and Yearbook. This was my introduction to teaching, where I learned as much from the students, fellow teachers and support staff as I did in my years at CSUN. While teaching at Matilija, I also served as Cross Country and Basketball Coach, as well as being Athletic Director for a few years. Coaching there was an incredible experience that gave me the confidence and love for cross country that pushed me to step up to the high school level.
While teaching and coaching at Matilija in 2004, I took on one of the Head Coaching positions for the Track & Field team at Nordhoff High School. In 2007 I married the love of my life, Cecelia Guerena, began teaching at Nordhoff High School along with taking over as the Cross Country Head Coach. Although I was hesitant to leave Matilija's wonderful culture and people, I found a new home as a Ranger faculty member. While at Nordhoff I have had the pleasure of teaching some amazing kids along with coaching some of the best teams in the state. My first year coaching the Rangers, I watched our cross country team soar to a CIF Southern Section Championship, experienced the birth of my little guy David Jr., and then saw my boys place 4th at the CIF State Championship meet. In 2015 the track team matched their feat, capturing a CIF Southern Section Championship with just 7 amazing athletes.
Having landed here in Ojai has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It has really been an amazing 22 years with the hope to continue for many more, with a new mix of students athletes with each year.
